the short sides of a rectangle are 2 inches. the long sides of the same rectangle are three less than an unknown number. if the area of the rectangle is 22 square inches, what is the value of the unknown number

Area = length x width
22 = length x 2
length = 22 ÷ 2 = 11 inches

Length is 3 less than an unknown number
So the unknown number is length + 3 = 11 + 3 = 15 inches
