Montesquieu proposed that separation of powers would keep any individual or group from gaining total control of the government

Hello!

Montesquieu was a strong believer of distribution of power. In order to protect liberty, he proposed what is known as the Separation of Powers. This system is used in the United States as a way to balance governmental power. Currently, the government is divided into three branches: the executive branch (the president and his workers), the legislative branch (House of Representatives and the Senate), and the judicial branch (the courts).
Separation of powers separates the government so that each branch serves a specific purpose. With this, if one branch begins to gain too much power, the other two branches can prevent it.

I hope this helps you! Feel free to comment or PM me if you have any additional questions!
