Slime molds have animal-like traits. What might be one reason they are classified with water molds as funguslike protists?

Slime molds and water molds are classified as protists instead of fungi because they lack cell specialization.

 Protists are eukaryotes that cannot be classified as animals, plants, or fungi. Because protists are so different from one another, you can think of them as the “odds and ends” kingdom.
