Instructions
1. Create a storyboard for how meiosis works in the space on your student activity sheet
a. This means that you will need pictures and a script for what to say
2.
Gather materials
a. You may use pipe cleaners, play-doh, paper, and/or markers to complete the modeling
activity
3. Set up the first cell in early Interphase, before replication occurs. This will be the first cell in
your presentation.
a. You must have at least 4 starting chromosomes.
4. Using the rest of the materials provided and your knowledge of meiosis, demonstrate each
phase of meiosis.
5. When you are confident that you have set up all stages of meiosis correctly and can verbally
explain each phase, create a presentation fully explaining meiosis.
6. Include the following information:
a. Track and describe what is happening to the DNA in each phase of meiosis shown
below
I. Interphase, Meiosis I, Meiosis II
1. Number of chromosomes present in the CELL AND HOW YOU KNOW!
a. Ex: There are
chromosomes pictured which means
the cell is [haploid / diploid] because
ii. When the cells go from diploid to haploid and how you know.
iii. When crossing-over takes places and what that means.
iv. What independent assortment is and when it takes place.
v. The overall result of each step - Interphase, Meiosis I, and Meiosis II
1. Description of result: Number of cells, haploid / diploid, changes to
DNA/Chromosomes
